America's Democratic Elite at 19% and Falling

Support for America's optimates collapses, Ukraine continues its diplomatic theater, and Trump has a "Nero moment"

We had a busy week of contradictions, and we were puzzled by some of the conduct of the American Empire in the 21st century. Puzzled is a polite word. Confounded would be stronger. And there are other words than that. But we'll stay with puzzled.

The three major concerns we have here in London is that the Americans are not quite certain they are an empire, and are not quite certain how an empire conducts itself. There are analogies, but then they slip away when we see some of the foolishness. We had foolishness in our time as well. But empire requires attention to detail. And it's not clear that the American empire is concerned with detail right now. It's more like a projection or a performance or a statement to make it true. You know, the moon is made of green cheese, and it's true.

The three items we need to address tonight. The first: Russia and Ukraine. They're both offering diplomatic moments, understanding that the war is not a stalemate. It certainly goes to the Keynesian military production of Russia. But it is something that Mr. Putin wants to resolve with his goals in hand. On the other hand, the Zelenskyy side says we're ready for talks any time. Talk is about all we get from Zelenskyy and his ever changing cabinet.

Then we want to address very carefully what we perceive to be a complete defeat and almost disappearance of the optimates—represented in the 21st century by the Democratic Party's progressives. Really smart. The right degrees, the right neighborhoods—never took a misstep. Somewhere in there is Harvard Law School, usually. And yet the approval rating from the American people is about to disappear. It's at 19% and not holding.

Thirdly—this is meant to be lighthearted, Germanicus, let us not be heavy about this—there are moments, and I can't quite be certain of them when they happen, that the combination of Donald Trump's biography and somebody named Epstein's biography turns into a perfect Nero moment, and then it's gone.

It's like a snowflake. Once it hits the ground, it disappears. Every snowflake is different, however, and these come down these days a lot. It's like a snowy storm of suggestive material about Trump's biography and Epstein's biography. I can't be certain, but we know that Nero did not come to a happy end.
