Harris Debate Plan, Putin's Russia, and the Imperial Idea

Londinium Chronicles with Michael Vlahos

Tonight we're concerned with events that happen in the 21st century. Our concern is the forthcoming battle between the very well-known and colorful (and sometimes underestimated) Donald Trump, former president of the United States, and his challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris.

She catapulted onto the world stage when President Biden stepped aside from his own reelection campaign and passed the baton to her, and she has been presenting herself to the swing states audiences these last weeks.

Trump has been concentrating on major media, and he's always ready to talk to his voters at his rallies. One rally was was a tragedy because there were deaths in the audience when a young man tried to assassinate him. However, we come to the big moment: the debate. To our knowledge, it will be the only debate. And there is a question of how Kamala Harris is going to present herself.

She gets advice from her own campaign and from voices at The Financial Times out of London—that this is an opportunity for her to define herself, to introduce herself to the American people. There are other voices saying she must do well in order to regain the momentum she had right after Mr. Biden named her as his successor on the campaign trail.

I note just at this moment, with hours to go till the debate begins, The New York Times/Siena poll now has Mr. Trump one point ahead, which FT interprets as a tie.

Will Miss Harris take this opportunity to present herself and not necessarily respond to Mr. Trump's remarks? Or will she be contentious and battle him and go for a clear win? I remind everybody that Hillary Clinton in 2016 won all three debates and you know the outcome.

How should we measure Cleopatra?
